Home insurance claims set to rise over Halloween
27.10.2008
The number of home insurance claims is expected to rocket this weekend as Halloween tricksters plan to wreak havoc, according to Tesco Home Insurance.
Figures released this week by the home insurance provider revealed that claims for damaged property in 2007 rose by 150 per cent on October 31st.
Tesco has advised home owners to be vigilant against vandalism or malicious acts on their property.
People wishing to join the fun should not be deterred from stocking up on sweets and treats, but those who would rather pass the night quietly without any trouble should just turn off their lights and pretend they are not home.
Head of Tesco Home Insurance Jim Bruce said: "Whether accidental or intentional, some Halloween revellers get carried away and cause real damage to property as a result of their antics."
He added people should ensure they have adequate cover to safeguard their property during this time.
Police around the country are taking measures to ensure Halloween night runs as peacefully as possible.
Officers are planning to step up patrols in Cumbria, while those in Wyre Forest have urged shop owners against selling flour and eggs to children under 18.
